Let’s Save Independent Restaurants, Shall We?

It’s no secret that restaurants are hurting right now. As of July 24, nearly 16,000 restaurants across the country have shut down with no hope of reopening. Abrupt closures, inconsistent re-openings, changes in public health guidelines, and customer trepidation have all made it incredibly difficult for restaurants to function.

Think of the neighborhood Italian spot down the block from your apartment you love to carb-load at on Sundays. Or that new Mediterranean eatery that opened in your small town just months before the pandemic hit. All of those independently-owned restaurants filled with warmth and quality food and staff who work doggedly to keep you happy and full—those are the pillars of our communities. We need to keep them open!

Independently-owned restaurants already run on thin margins. Couple that with a worldwide pandemic and you have an industry mired in chaos. So what can we do to help?

Support the $120 billion Independent Restaurant Revitalization Fund, which would provide your favorite restaurants with the funds they need to weather the challenging months—and potentially years—ahead. This is the only active proposal in both the House and Senate that will help indie restaurants avoid permanent closure and help protect up to 16 million jobs.

Do your part by asking Congress to pass The RESTAURANTS Act today.
